Interference at Kionia

Direction Finding

Cyta

The Civil Aviation primary radar system at Kionia station suffered from occassional severe interference. This problem seemed to appear on a random basis, with unpredictable durations that lasted from a few minutes to a few hours, and it affected the probability of reception of a signal.

In November 2009, Netfon was assigned to investigate the matter by carrying out direction finding measurements and to report accordingly. Following extensive measurements carried out by our staff, the frequencies and directions of the interference were identified and we proposed short- and long-term actions to our customer in order to rectify the problem.
