Intermodulation at Larnaca Airport

Projects

Cyta

In 2016, following complaints from the air traffic controllers of the Cyprus Civil Aviation about intereference on one of their main operating frequencies, Cyta contracted Netfon to investigate the issue. According to the complaint, the conrtollers could sometimes hear the airport weather information channel (ATIS) on one of their most important operating frequencies.

Netfon studied the issue and deduced that the problem must be the result of an intermodulation product. Having identified the frequencies that could have created the issue, Netfon carried out detailed on-site measurements inside and outside the airport. The problem was indeed verified and the exact pair of frequencies that caused it were identified. A detailed report was sent to Cyta with the results of our study, measurements and recommendations, which in turn proceeded with actions to resolve the issue.
